Join UP Praxis as it celebrates its 8th year with the screening of My Fake American Accent (Cinemalaya '08)
This slice-of-life workplace comedy follows the lives of several
Technical Support Call Center Agents based in Ortigas Business Distric
in the span of six months. These call center agents belong to a single
team. They handle calls and provide inbound tech support for the
American customers of an internet company in the US. Speaking in a fake
American accent is a prerequisite for the job. They are:
ERIC (Call
Center Agent, 19) is the newcomer in the team. He always knew he wanted
to be in the call center industry. He’s taking a break from his studies
to work in a call center.
SAMP's
(Call Center Agent, 18) full name is Sampaguita. She’s an “orc” (those
young people who wear all-black and love to listen to heavy metal bands
like Slapshock and Greyhoundz, they usually go around in big groups).
She has a rebellious streak; she doesn’t relate too well with authority
figures.
MERYL (Quality Specialist, 27) is a guy and that’s not his real name. He
earned his nickname (as in Meryl Streep) because of his uncanny ability
to do different accents. He has been on his job for two years, and he’s
getting tired of it. He is on the verge of a burnout.
ASTRID (Call Center Agent, 25) is smart and sassy. She is also a nerd, and
proud of it. She also always takes a book with her to work so she can
do some reading in between calls. But what she really wants to do in
life is to write serious literature.
BUSTER’s
(Call Center Agent, 23) real name is Sebastian. He’s been on the job
for almost a year now. Like most agents, he likes to spend on clothes
and shoes. He spent two years at the PMA prior to becoming a call
center agent.
MS. SEVA (she claims to be 36 years old) is their Team Leader. Despite her sweet
appreance and perky attitude, she possesses the double-whammy of
ambition and ruthlessness. She’s a former Miss Batangas beauty contest
winner; she plays to win, and she takes no prisoners.
This
is an inside look into the maddening, sleep deprived, caffeine-fuelled
lives of those who ply their trade in the call center industry.

Wishlist 2008

I've never really been one to make a wishlist. Actually, I've probably never made one. I've been seeing people make this for whatever occasion so I decided to give it a shot.
1. A good book. recommendations, 2nd hand, on loan. I don't care. I just want to read good books!
2. Good coffee or a round of drinks with a good friend or friends coupled with tons and tons of stories/ fantastic convos.
3. A phone call, message, note, comment from the people i love and miss dearly who live miles and miles away from me.
4. A black wallet.
5. Pink and black rubber shoes
6. Film! lots and lots and lots of film!
7. New plastic toys.
8. A bunch of new postcards.
9. A card, a letter something personal, something which isn't virtual.
10. Whisk me away to some place I've never been before, surprise me! A province, a restau, a house..anything!
11. A trip to cambo,
vietnam(check na to! 3:59 pm May 14), laos.a country totally new to me.
12. A pretty journal to write in with colorful ballpens
13. A new president of the philippines, well, since I'm wishing for a miracle here, dagdagan ko na. A totally new set of public officials. World peace narin.
14. A framed picture of us, of friends, of experiences.

*edit: I just booked a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam June 12-16 so I guess I have to take vietnam off my list. :D I'm finally traveling alone! Tamang birthday gift!

A friend sent me a message early this morning about his death. I couldn't believe it. Last week it was Brad Renfro, this week him.
He was found in his bed in NY, naked, with sleeping pills beside him. He was only 28!
Why are so many people passing away?
