cell phones

Why hasn't anybody built up a cell phone protocol that sends you contact information from cell phone to cell phone? The reason I ask is because I've seen this situation unfold far too many times:

Bob: "Yeah, get in touch with Horace."
(muffled conversation from other end)
Bob: "Oh you don't have his number? Hold on a sec."
Bob: "Ok... you ready?"
(Bob hits up a few times, then hits the keypad a few times)
(Bob stares at the number for a second)
Bob: "It's 555..."
(Bob, in his busy little mind, is incapable of memorizing a full phone number at once, so he looks at the phone once again)
Bob: "You get that? Ok.. 555-5555"
(muffled conversation)
Bob: "Hold on, lemme double check..."
(Bob looks back at the number)
Bob: "Yeah, it's 555-5555."

Inevitably, sometimes the person on the other end forgets the number and calls back and the whole process is repeated. Besides looking absolutely retarded and ackward ... why isn't there a simple "Send phone number to current caller?" feature? Like the same way dialtone phones work; if the cell phone picks up any type of dialtone; it displays teh number on the screen of the receiver much as if they typed them.

Anyone?

shouldnt' there be massive privacy rights advocates rioting here?

people give out their number at their own choosing.. yada yada.. imagine if people were forwarding that paris hilton phone...

Such a feature already exiss roy, it's called "Send Business Card".

that's strange...Sending business cards is pretty much a standard in even the cheapie phones here. It's exactly what you detailed.

Not all phones can receive them though, usually Nokia to Nokia kinda thing.

what i hate is when someone wants my cell phone number while i'm on the phone with them. they're on their home rotary phone or some crap. i mean, come on, get a damn cell phone, it's the year 2005. jesus died almost 2000 years ago and you can't get a cell phone? and so they want my number, and of course, who remembers their own cell#? you know? so i have to goto my phone book, and click my number, then read out the number back to them. not knowing whether they could hear the number i had read out aloud because i have to move my face and ear away from the screen in order to see the number in order to read it out loud. then i get back on the phone with them, and they read it back to me to make sure it's right. of course, i still don't know whether the number is right or not, because i didn't bother memorizing it. so i have to rinse and repeat. it's a painful process. i wish someone would kill me.

Actually, I once had a Nokia (3330, I think) that had this "forward number" feature and what it did was send a 'phonebook' entry via txt message. The brother had the same func. on his samsung, but I think it was called "business card".

Of course, I was in Asia at the time, and I'm assuming you're in the US . . . My US handphone is a letdown after Asian com-tech.
