galore

First of all, especially to my officemates, I would like to let you know that this post is not about Eric a.k.a. Galore.  Hehe.  Ayun lang.  If you're reading this, peace tayo Galore at ingat sa Malaysia.  Regards na rin kay Mama Joy.

So why is the title "galore"?  'Cuz it's the word attached to, most of the time when you spend like there's no tomorrow, shopping.

I used to waste away my earnings buying food here and there every four hours...or less.  Yep, I'm hungry always, and yes, I also do wonder where all I eat goes.  Hehehe.  I used to eat three meals a shift and that doesn't include meals at home and snacks.  But now, my appetite's gone down a bit.  Probably due to the whey.  Buy hey!  My trainor said I'm chubbier now!  After 48 years...hahaha.  Anyway, enough of this.

Shopping.

You see, I do my own laundry.  It started way back when I noticed my mom not washing our clothes.  She hasn't reached her 50s but of course she's older and tires more easily.  She sleeps a lot too, so now you know why I'm a sleepyhead.  She still washes her own clothes though, and my younger brother's, although sometimes my dad does the washing for him.

Anyway, I haven't done my laundry in weeks.  Yes, weeks.  Either I'm too lazy to wake up and do it or I'm too engrossed on the books I bought.  Oh and during one of my off days, I stayed overnight at the hospital to be with my grandma who was confined for about two weeks.  Yes, two weeks, so please don't ask me how much that cost.

Literally, my dirty clothes are all over the room.  And since I'm too tired to wash them during my workdays, I just let them breathe.  Haha kidding.

Good thing I'm on first shift these days so after work, I rush to the mall.  Instead of going home to wash the dirties, I buy.  I know it's kind of a waste but I'd rather think of it as an investment.

Yesterday after my workout, I pulled my trainer with me to look for clothes.  Hordes of oldies and yuppies, straights and otherwise, were all over the malls!!  I didn't realize until then that thanks to the payday landing on a Friday, there's a 3-day sale and midnight madness at Glorietta.

Anyway, never mind the people.  I needed good looking clothes to wear at least today as it's a Saturday.  Hehe.

Until yesterday, I didn't know my trainer had quick and good eyes for clothes.  She was rummaging through the stalls and scanning the shirts and jeans so quickly.  What would've been decades to me was just over an hour with her around.  That includes going from one stall to the next and back, comparing shirts, and fitting them on.

In the end, I bought 2 jeans and 3 shirts costing me about a fourth of my pay.

The day before yesterday, I bought 2 underwears from Bench, one of which must have been introduced during last year's fashion show as it had beads (to think iniiwas-iwasan ko yun kaso nakatiklop at hindi kita at pagod na ko tumingin pa ng iba, and I'm wearing it now *ahem*).

And last week, I bought 4.  Maybe I should start endorsing Bench Body.  Hahahaha.  That's a BIG no no to Mama!  (Hay...mga pangarap nga naman sa buhay...LOL.  Hindi nga ako pinayagan ni Mama mag-audition dun sa search kahit Dad ko mismo sabi kumuha ako ng application form, and I did.  Maybe next time.  Hehe.)

Before the underwear harvest, I bought the books.

So yesterday, I went home with just PhP 50 in my wallet and a bunch of coins.  Good thing I got home safe and I arrived here at the office with just PhP 4.25 left.

But...

Na-karma ata ako.  Wala na kasi akong pera.  As in zilch.  So I tried to withdraw earlier, but the lines were just too long or the ATMs have already spit all their cash out.  So ginawa ko na lang, "Reg, pautang ng breakfast."  And I had the walang sawang Delfrance's Ham and Cheese Omellete with Baget and Brewed Coffee.  Good luck na lang pag-alis ko ng office mamaya.  Hay...  Pero gigimik pa din ako after I meet up with *ahem*wink*ahem*.  Hehehe.

books books books

I have been a bookworm since a kid.  You see, I'm the geeky one among the three of us siblings.  Well, that's what they say.  My older sister's into the spiritual and medical stuff; I'm into almost anything that's on a bookshelf or flashing on the big screen; my younger brother's the astig type who's more into music.

I remember that about more than a decade ago, I killed time by browsing through an encyclopedia.  Nope, I was never and will never be the genius type who retains everything that I read.  I just loved the pictures and reading about things I have no knowledge of.  Refresher pages were good though.  I crap with an encyclopedia on my lap!  I didn't mind if my legs were cramping already since I would normally finish one volume before standing and wiping up.

In grade school, I pushed my mom to buy me a book she didn't like.  She said it might not be for kids my age as it could be too scary, dark, and evil.  Still, she bought it after frowning myself around the old Glorietta for hours.  Years gone by and I found the book's first of five volumes, which I bought just in Book Sale, SM North.  The last three were bought at Powerbooks ATC.  Sadly, I can't find the fifth these days, but I guess it's just somewhere around the house.  That book I'm talking about is now a movie -- The Dark Is Rising.

In college, I was introduced to Neil Gaiman's graphic novels, The Sandman.  Although I would love to own the collection really soon, I'll wait until I have enough to buy it in one go.  One graphic novel is like buying 4 novels, so that's about ten thousand bucks.  Besides, he has written other novels.  For now, I should be content with the paperbacks.

Two Thursdays ago, it was raining so hard I couldn't leave the building unless I didn't mind getting my whole body wet.  It was almost 11 AM already when  the rain settled a bit so I was able to cross the street.  There were a lot of folks waiting for the jeep and bus so I decided to walk from RCBC to EDSA.  I just consoled myself by saying I haven't done that in months.  Good thing there's an overpass walkway going to Greenbelt so I took that.  But Powerbooks is there and it was the day after payday.

I decided to pass by and buy Stardust, one of Neil Gaiman's novels, now a movie.  I've been wanting to buy that book years ago.  Unfortunately, they don't have the old cover anymore, thanks to the film adapatation.  Anyway, I bought three of his books: Stardust, Neverwhere, and Anansi Boys.  I wouldn't be surprised if I bought another one anytime soon and if some of them was or will be a movie or a TV series.

I also bought Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.  It sounded interesting, thanks to Misterhubs's post.  The title sounded very familiar until I found out that this has been adapted to a movie twice already.  Now it's not something my mom would allow me to read even though I'm already 23.  Get the hint?  It's not vulgar, believe me!  I'm still at the tenth chapter of part one, and though it's not really turning me on (no, not in that sense!), it's a classic.  Nabokov's a classic writer who knows his words.  As I love to say when reading such lines, poetic prose.

Four books from two weeks ago.  Now, I'm down to one, Lolita.  Kinda slow, but anyways, back to work.

back to 1st shift...

...and I'm itching to stay at the office for no apparent reason.  Hehe.

I originally planned to go to Glorietta and check the Timex store there.  I have this free/40% discount watch voucher.  It has been with me for four months now and the deadline's tomorrow already.  Sayang naman yun di ba??

Kaya lang sinumpong ng katamaran.  First day ko kasi sa work today.  (Yep, five days ako off.)  So, I just checked the bank's website and found out that the promo is extended until today, therefore the voucher can be used until the 30th of November.  At any rate, I'm going to Glorietta tomorrow with *ahem*wink*ahem* so we'll most probably pass by the store then.  Sorry, I'm really sick and you can even ask my teammates if I have colds and cough...  Hindi ko tuloy nasabi pangalan nya.  Hahaha.

Sana lang hindi namin makalimutan dumaan bukas o tamarin ng ilang buwan na naman at abutan ulit ng deadline.  Hehe.

english only policy

First of all, I would like to thank Barbara.  If not for him, I would not have known that I can now login again to this site.  Sya ulit??  Hehehe.

Anyway, I'm still at the office.  I don't know what's up with my teammates but around 11:30 PM, one of them decided and told us to speak in English only.  It's a company policy but the management is not a hundred percent strict on this since first of all, we're in the Philippines, and second, we don't get visitors from onshore everyday.  Of course, we should speak in English to our executive management as much as possible.

We started this a quarter past midnight.  Originally, it was to last for only an hour until one of us (ahem) blurted that we should extend it until the end of shift.  I just remembered the real reason for doing this is for our teammate who's going to the States on September.

The rules are:

  • no Taglish (i.e, It is like parang the bundok over dun.),
  • no two consecutive Tagalog words/maximum of one Tagalog word per sentence (i.e., I can do this sa Monday.),
  • no cuss words in any language (i.e., Put-that-ina yours),
  • no use of quotations or italis (i.e., What I mean in Tagalog is that "mahal kita."),
  • visitors from other teams must be spoken to in English, and
  • this goes for Communicator, Sametime, emails, buying yosi at 7-11, etc.

We sounded like crazy.  "Nosebleed," as per one manager.  But we continued for more than an hour.

It only ended when the one who brought it up said he's tensed.  Hahaha.  After that, some of us continued on but later on felt the need to express ourselves more freely in the language we got used to growing up.

Ayun lang po.  Gusto ko lang i-post kasi 'di ba, memories are forever?  Mas ok naman kung may proofHehehe.
