15 told me off
on haffinesh, part 2
this was supposed to be a comment on this post, but it kept getting longer and longer, and here we are.
Corsarius, on why he didn't immediately "follow his bliss":
in rpg terms, there are certain points in the game where it says that "you must be level x to continue with this quest", and the player is made to do "side quests" which earn him valuable items and experience points. any kind of work, be it school, extra-curricular, etcetera, is never pointless.
for example; while Corsarius was in college he had a stint as Editor-in-Chief of their department newspaper, and also contributed to several other school publications. allowing the then would-be writer to pick up valuable skills and experiences that I'm sure are paying off now.
life will arm you with the weapons you will need before pitting you against the challenges that are on the way to where you're supposed to go. Campbell likened it to a track that has been waiting for you all along. well I say, let it wait 'til you are ready. If you encounter an ocean in your path, don't think swimming across is the only option; life will give you a boat and teach you how to fish. you just gotta get in.
eventually you'll get this undeniable feeling to do a specific something. that's when you know you're good to go. ^__^
I got that feeling wielding only a sword and shield. some of our other friends (waves to Ia, Geo) are busy forging armor and training their horses (and getting paid while doing it too). that's why I believe they'll have a much easier time than I had when that specific something hits them, if it hasn't already.
Corsarius, on why he didn't immediately "follow his bliss":
Back in my UP days, I used school, student org, and part-time work as excuses not to write, not to join contests, not to submit to publications. I had the “There would be much time later” mentality. I wanted to shift to Creative Writing, Journalism, or Comparative Literature, but did not, being as stubborn as Taureans ought to be. I was a student under three accomplished literary figures (Paolo Manalo, Luna Sicat-Cleto, Marby Villaceran) for three elective classes but became content with passively receiving lessons. Of course, those might’ve been signs of confidence, but I’d like to see them as procrastination…and cowardice.

Onga di lang taray yan si ia. I'd rather say "Artistic Skills". Siyempre given na matatalino kami lahat. Hahaha
ia (guest)

Anyway. I have no patience for RPGs. I just want to watch. Maybe because OC ako at maaasar lang ako pag may severe damage akong natamo. Other examples include bankruptcy in Monopoly. Mortgage property is an awful sight. Surprisingly natapos ko ang Bookworm Adventures pero tatlong parts ("books") lang yun.
Geo, hindi GURL kundi PRINCESS. Hekhekhek. And I'm sure it was his gradeschool "stint" not his high school and college years that built the foundations. :P Personal opinion.
Garro

have you played "Maniac Mansion" type games before?
ia (guest)

garro... i get things done. hindi (lang) po taray. ask kimpo. hindi mo ko kilala.
Garro

masaya lang isipin yung attack na "taray". kaboom! hehehe
Corsarius (guest)

@geo, 'left the party'? kelan yun? hmmm...
Geo (guest)

You left the party 2nd sem of our freshman year. You came back when you became the EIC.
[Reason because you were so OVERLYDRAMATIC about the "GURL IN ORANGE"]
Corsarius (guest)

well, yeah, those school publications helped me a lot, though more on the management, leadership, and public relations side; journalism (esp. news writing) is very different from creative writing. however, i did get started in tagalog poetry because one of the works of our lit editor, dj saracin, inspired me so much, and because Parser desperately needed lit pieces, hahaha.
back to the RPG analogy...i'm always fond of doing *all* the side quests and encountering all the easter eggs (esp. in Fallout!). i guess the same translates to real life.
"If you encounter an ocean in your path, don't think swimming across is the only option; life will give you a boat and teach you how to fish. you just gotta get in." words of wisdom from garro :D
narealize ko lang, tayong apat pala nina geo at ia ay magkakapartido sa arise, hehehe.
Garro

I wish a certain storm-in-a-teacup was exposed to what we experienced in Arise. hehe.
Geo (guest)

Ok, I'll play with this RPG analogy.. Hehe I'm glad Ia and the Corsair are one of my party members (okay this is my dream world, so I'm pretending to be Squall or the "leader") and I'm glad we did accomplish a lot of things for the students and for the department. We even had a time when the Corsair "left the party" to level up and then come back after a year well equipped. :D
And guess who's the Seifer in my life back then... hahaha
Garro

na-imagine ko kayo sa ganung setting:
"you encounter: CS group project"
"Geo uses organizational skills! bam!"
"Kimpo writes the formal report! kapow!"
"Ia uses taray! kaboom!"
"oh no, the project is still not finished, and is due tomorrow!"
"Limit Break! Overnightan na!"
cue victory music:
rapatata-ta-nan-tat-taraaaaaan!
milio_vinluan

Pero past is past. Hahaha
Ang geeky naman ng example mo. Hehe kainis :) Pero pwede na rin.
Geo (guest)

Hehe sorry :)
